Dwyer Joins Hillspeed

 For Official Silverstone Test

Hathersage based Formula Renault UK Championship team Hillspeed is delighted to confirm it will be joined by rising category rookie Lee Dwyer for this week’s final official test of the 2009 pre-season at Silverstone in Northamptonshire.

The 18-year-old, who had originally planned to compete in Formula Renault UK this year with his family-run SSS Motorsport entry, will continue to drive his own FR 2.0 car but it will be prepared and maintained during the two-day test by Richard Ollerenshaw’s leading team.

Previously enjoying success in historic racing circles, the Huddersfield driver made his contemporary single-seater debut in the Formula Renault BARC Championship in 2007 and achieved his maiden category podium last season on his way to a richly deserved top 10 finish in the driver standings.

Team principal Ollerenshaw is absolutely delighted to have secured an agreement with Dwyer and is looking forward to seeing the promising Formula Renault UK rookie run alongside fellow category graduate Menasheh Idafar tomorrow, Tuesday, 24th March, and on Wednesday, 25th March.

Should the test outing go well for both parties, there is the strong possibility Dwyer could sign a race deal with Hillspeed to contest the full 2009 Formula Renault UK Championship which begins at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, in Kent, less than two weeks from now.

“We’re very pleased to have agreed a deal with Lee for this week’s test and we’re very much looking forward to working with such a quick and talented young driver”, said Ollerenshaw, “Lee has proven his talent in historics but now he’s focused 100 per cent on his contemporary racing. If all goes well, we can hopefully work on securing a race agreement for the coming season.

“The team is still looking to field three cars if we can this season in Formula Renault UK and we’re talking to several potential candidates. I’m hopeful we’ll have more news to announce there in the next week or so.”

Dwyer’s debut as a Hillspeed driver will come at Silverstone’s National Circuit layout tomorrow, Tuesday, 24th March, with a second day of official testing on the Northamptonshire venue’s full Grand Prix Circuit on Wednesday, 25th March.
