Reid joins Porsche Carrera Cup GB

Former Le Mans and BTCC ace Anthony Reid will race in the opening two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Brands Hatch (4/5 April), when drives the VIP entry from Porsche Motorsport."It's going to be really competitive and I'm delighted to get the chance to race in such a credible championship," said Reid. "There are some very good teams and drivers in the Carrera Cup and I want to give it my best shot. I always set my targets high and I want to achieve the best possible result."Reid (51) is one of Britain's most versatile and experienced racing drivers, with a catalogue of success in a 30-year racing career. After climbing the single-seater ladder, he raced extensively in sports and GT cars and finished third at Le Mans in 1990 in a Porsche 962C. He later spent eight seasons racing in the BTCC, winning 15 races and taking the championship runner-up position in 1998 and again in 2000. More recently, he has raced in the TC2000 series in Argentina, competing against some of the biggest names of touring car racing and winning the 200km of Buenos Aires in 2008.Although this will be Reid's first race in the latest generation of 911GT3 Cup car, he has raced extensively in Porsches through his career and owned a 911 as a road car. "I raced a 911GT2 in Japanese GT from 1994 to 1996 and before that I did some Porsche Supercup races. Over the years, I've driven a lot of Porsches."Reid will drive the car for the first time during the pre-weekend testing at Brands on Friday. "My last race on the BTCC package was in 2004, and I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
