AIRWAVES PRO CAMPAIGN
Wrigley’s Airwaves® has today (30 March) launched the new 2009 Airwaves Pro campaign, which includes Airwaves Yamaha BSB rider James Ellison (28), and Airwaves BMW BTCC drivers Jonny Adam (24) and Rob Collard (40), joining the team of professional motorsport individuals who form the Airwaves Pro ambassador line up.
They come into the team alongside FIA World Rally Championship driver Matthew Wilson (22) who drives for the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Rally Team and is the only full time British driver in the field.
Completing the line up, and now in his second year as an Airwaves Pro, is Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier (22). Leon notched three wins last year in only his second season in the British Superbike Championship, on the way to the Airwaves® sponsored team winning the championship.
All five personalities will embody the ‘live your dream’ value of Airwaves Pro. The Airwaves Pro’s are ambassadors chosen to help inspire people to ‘KICK UP A GEAR®’ and Leon Camier, James Ellison, Matthew Wilson, Jonny Adam and Rob Collard embody this adrenaline and high octane fuelled spirit.
Matthew Wilson, also now in his second year as an Airwaves Pro, has had a good start to the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship season. In the first three events of the calendar Matthew has managed two 7th place finishes and a 5th place finish in the last round in Cyprus, which provides a great start to build on and some good points for the team. 2009 will see Matthew competing in a total of 12 rallies across 12 countries, watched by a global audience of 815 million, and culminating at Rally GB in Wales on October 25th.
Matthew Wilson said: “I am so pleased to be an Airwaves Pro for a second year running. The campaign really benefits motorsport fans and it’s great to be involved with such a pro-active sponsor”.
James joins Leon in the new look Airwaves Yamaha British Superbike outfit as the team opt for a change of manufacturer in a bid to win a 5th British Superbike title. Already the most successful team in the Championship’s history, Leon and James will be looking to start the season off in great style with victories at the opening round of the season at Brands Hatch on April 13th.
James Ellison commented: “I am thrilled to be joining the Airwaves Pro ranks. I am excited about the new season and the mission ahead. I hope that through my positive attitude, personal challenges and contributions to the Airwaves Pro campaign I will be able to inspire the public to push themselves as much as I do on a race weekend!”
Leon Camier added: “Airwaves® is great for British Superbikes and motorsport in general. It’s great to have them as team sponsor and to be an Airwaves Pro additionally is a great honour. I can’t wait to get the season started!”
Jonny Adam and Rob Collard will drive for Airwaves BMW in the BTCC, one of the world’s most established and prestigious racing championships. Jonny has won three British Championships previously and is a BRDC ‘Young Rising Star’. Rob is a former BTCC Independents Cup champion and both will be hoping to start 2009 as they ended 2008 with 5 trophies at the last round of the season at Brands Hatch.
Jonny Adam said: “To be driving in the BTCC this season is a dream come true for me, and to become an Airwaves Pro and enable others to do just that is a great privilege. I can’t wait to get started and hope that my performances this season on the track will provide inspiration for others.”
Rob Collard added: “I’m looking forward to being in the company of other motorsport professionals who I respect so highly. If I can help others ‘KICK UP A GEAR®’ as we do throughout the year then I’ll be playing my part. The BTCC is an amazing sport and I’m confident people will be inspired by watching the action unfold in 2009.”
Toby Baker, Wrigley Marketing Director, said: “Airwaves is delighted to welcome James, Jonny and Rob alongside Matthew and Leon in our 2009 Airwaves® Pro line-up. We’re excited about all the racing to come this year on both two and four wheels and the potential they all bring for the campaign.
“We can’t wait to get started working with them as motorsport is of high interest to our consumers and has close brand values. All five personal sponsorships epitomize our ‘KICK UP A GEAR®’ campaign and we are happy to have found the perfect mix to engage and excite our consumers.
“The Airwaves Pro campaign is about enabling people to live their dream and ‘KICK UP A GEAR®’ like never before. It’s by the example set by the Pro’s that we hope many people will be empowered to do this.”
