WALKER TAKES A STROLL DOWN THE MEMORY FAST LANE
Pumpkin Tours marks the end of an era with Murray Walker and says farewell to Silverstone
The most famous voice in British Motor racing will be saying a final goodbye to Silverstone at a special gathering of F1 fans this summer.
Murray Walker – who is 86 this year – will be answering questions and telling stories about his memories of the famous track during the British Grand Prix which starts on 19 June.
The landmark event has been organised by Pumpkin Tours, which provides a wide range of carefully crafted worldwide tours including trips to F1 Grand Prix events, horse racing and music festivals.
Pumpkin has also invited the original ‘Black Stig’ to the event. Perry McCarthy, who became the petrol head’s hero after appearing on the BBC’s Top Gear programme with Jeremy Clarkson will also be answering questions and meeting his fans.
“I have spent most of my life soaking up the excitement and drama of Formula One. The fans come from all walks of life and they all have great memories and stories to tell,” says Murray Walker.
“I’ve watched the true greats from Fangio to Fittipaldi and from Stewart to Senna on this track – it’s been a huge part of my life since after the War. Silverstone is a part of F1 history and it’s a privilege to be a part of its farewell to motor racing, he added.”
“This is a real moment in racing history not to be missed,” says Eugene Bari, founder of Pumpkin tours. “I have spent my life following Formula One around the world’s best circuits. To be organising something like this and to have Murray Walker as the guest of honour is a dream come true and something I want to share with other fans.”
Walker – who began commentating on F1 for the BBC in 1949 and was a tank commander during WWII has emerged from retirement to add his expertise to the coverage of the races this year.
“This man has been on the motor racing scene for more than sixty years,” says Bari. “He is an icon to millions of fans. He is also a mine of racing stories.”
