LEICESTER have continued their extensive team re-build with the signing of experienced Swede Magnus Karlsson, who will make his debut at Beaumont Park on Saturday.Karlsson, who has not been racing in the UK this year, replaces Richard Hall who is returning to former club Scunthorpe, with promoter David Hemsley stating the decision was partly down to Hall’s weekend long-track commitments.Hemsley said: “Richard has upped his game since coming to Leicester but we are in the same situation as we found ourselves with Mathieu Trésarrieu and need to have a captain who is not elsewhere when he should be leading the side.“It is not a good advert for the sport or the people of Leicester to pay to see a six man team operating the rider replacement facility. With Kauko Nieminen, Henning Bager and now Magnus joining us we have the foundations of a strong heat leader partnership.”

NEWPORT promoter Steve Mallett has hit back at criticism of the way the club has been promoted since he and his family took charge in 2009.Mallett brought the Wasps back into the Premier League following the death of former boss Tim Stone in 2008, and a mid-season rebuild sees them now tracking arguably their strongest side in years. He said: “We have attracted increased coverage from a variety of media outlets, have set-up two highly-successful websites, completed several extremely large leaflet drops throughout Gwent and the valley and recently did so outside the Millennium Stadium before and after the Grand Prix.“Anybody willing to give their time to work for the good of the club can easily contact ourselves and any fresh ideas will be listened to.”

BELLE Vue Colts beat Dudley 53-15 in a controversial National League match abandoned due to the curfew after remedial track work had earlier been required. There were a series of crashes with Heathens youngster Tom Perry taken to hospital, although he was later discharged after tests had showed there were no broken bones.Belle Vue Operations Director Chris Morton said: “The track was patchy early on. There were some ruts on the inside which created problems but we were working on it from Heat 2. Some riders were revelling in it and others were struggling to cope in the early heats.“I apologise for the meeting being a shambles but there were so many incidents and not all could be blamed on the track. Belle Vue is not an easy track to ride and young riders can find it difficult, no matter what the conditions are.”(FIXTURES) THURSDAY JULY 14:PREMIER LEAGUE: Ipswich v Leicester 7.30, Redcar v Somerset 7.30, Sheffield v Scunthorpe 7.45
