A SUMPTUOUS VENUE AND EXTREME CONDITIONS GREET FORMULEC’S 100% ELECTRIC EF01 IN MOSCOWDURING ‘MOSCOW CITY RACING’ EVENT

The Kremlin’s famous red walls provided an opulent backdrop for Formulec’s EF01, along with Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus grand prix teams, to arouse interest and curiosity amongst gathered media and spectators at the 2011 Moscow City Racing event last weekend. But far from this merely acting as a promotional exercise, the car’s latest public demonstration provided a wealth of useful technical information and feedback thanks to the extreme weather conditions encountered on Saturday and, especially, Sunday afternoon. It was in sweltering temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius that the EF01, with Alexandre Prémat and Russian racer Daniil Move at the wheel, made several crossings of the famous bridge found at the foot of Red Square on Saturday. The cooling systems of the various electronic components, which were subjected to a vigorous test of their credentials, performed perfectly.

Come Sunday, those scorching temperatures had been replaced by storm clouds and torrential rain. On a soaked track and in the middle of impressive plumes of spray, the EF01’s two drivers posted several laps of the four-kilometre temporary circuit which passed beneath the Kremlin’s windows.

This spectacular demonstration verified research that has been carefully conducted on the single seater’s powertrain over several years, thus publically proving its ability to perform in abject conditions.

Formulec, which had the honour of welcoming Russia’s French Ambassador Jean de Gliniasty, also saw its EF01 star as the main attraction at the opening party of one of Moscow City Racing’s principal partners, Ingosstrakh.

In addition, numerous contacts were made throughout the weekend amid plans to organise an event in Russia. This is just another example of Formulec’s technical and promotional development as it bids to create an international series for the first fully electrical single seater, the EF01.
