Entries for Wales Rally GB are open

The countdown to this year’s Wales Rally GB is gathering momentum, with organisers shortly accepting entries to both the International and National events (entries officially open Monday 1st August 2011).

Wales Rally GB, which marks the 13th and final round of the FIA World Rally Championship calendar, takes place from 10th to 13th November 2011. Stages for this extended, four day route, which covers more than 350 competitive miles, run from the legendary Great Orme Toll road in the north, through the forests of west Wales, down to the military ranges of mid-Wales and a ceremonial finish in the city of Cardiff.

The event offers both WRC and amateur rally drivers a thrilling challenge on some of the most renowned stages in the world. Wales Rally GB National, taking place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th November 2011, is open to both modern and historic cars, allowing privateer drivers with limited budgets to enjoy the privilege of competing alongside motorsport world champions.

Andrew Coe, chief executive of Wales Rally GB organiser International Motor Sports, comments: “By opening up the rally to a fourth day of competition and introducing an additional element of competitive mileage, we’re really at the vanguard of world rallying. This is an exciting time for the sport and, once again, we’re delighted to be able to offer amateur rally drivers the chance to compete on the same stages as their professional counterparts with our National event.”

Come November, last year’s National winner, Presteigne-based Nigel Griffiths, will be hoping to repeat his victory, while Brecon’s young driver Sara Williams is aiming to return to the event to better her fourth-placing in last year’s National event.

Information about entering Wales Rally GB 2011 can be found at walesrallygb.com.

The first 30 entries received for the Wales Rally GB National event will be accepted in order of receipt, with the remaining entries being advised if they are successful on Wednesday 19th October. The entry fee will be £675, including VAT.

The first 30 Amateur entries received for the Wales Rally GB International event will also be accepted on a first come, first served basis, with four days of competition and an entry fee of £2,475, including VAT.
