Trident Spa GP2 Race 1 Report

Trident Racing experienced a really tense day at Spa-Francorchamps, where the 8th round of the 2011 GP2 Main Series started on Saturday On lap 16 of race 1, Stefano Coletti was  involved in an hard but unavoidable accident. After having recovered from the back of the pack almost to the top-10, he was following Aleshin while running behind the safety-car. At that point, the Russian driver's engine suddenly entered the safety-mode, slowing down his car abruptly. Coletti's front wheel touched one of Aleshin's rear tires, starting a wild run that ended up with Stefano rebounding harshly on the ground. The Italian-Monegasque racer immediately reported some heavy back pains.

 After having been checked at the track's medical center, Coletti was airlifted to Liège, where he was admitted to hospital. As the screenings revealed, he suffered from a compound fracture of his third and fourth thoracic vertebrae.

 The race suddenly became a background matter, as Trident Racing's bad day ended with Rodolfo Gonzalez retiring on lap 19. The Belgian weekend of the championship will be ending tomorrow with the running of race 2, covered live in Italy by RAI2 at 10:30. Gonzalez will be taking-off in 19th.
