Two More Victories for De Vries in CIK-FIA World Championship

Sarno ( I )In an increasingly hard-fought and unpredictable World KF1 Championship, Nyck De Vries (Zanardi-Parilla) is sparing no efforts to take home as many victories, podiums and points as possible at each race. During the fourth round 2011 held at Sarno (Italy), the Dutch karter added two fantastic victories to his stunning list of achievements. Unfortunately, due to a mechanical problem on Sunday, he could not score as many points as he wanted to. But the Chiesa Corse driver is still in the lead of the Championship, now that there is just one round to go.

The international circuit of Sarno, near Naples, has all the difficulties that can be found on a kart track. Engines must be powerful to deal with the long fast parts, while drivers must take great care when driving and in the setup phase of their chassis to come through the bends and hairpins as quickly as possible. After the highly professional work made by his team during free practice, Nyck De Vries had a perfect timed qualifying session and clinched a pole position with a tiny lead of 4 hundredths. In the first of the four meeting races, he made an excellent start and put in a lot of effort to quickly open a gap and ride alone towards victory. The second race on Saturday started in the same vein, with a fantastic Nyck De Vries in the lead from the start to the end and a victory conquered with a lead of over 5 seconds!

"It was a great day for sure", Nyck commented. "We were capable of setting the kart up for some pretty hard conditions, because it was very hot in Sarno, with a high grip track. My times improved lap by lap and I set the best lap time twice towards the end of the race". Unfortunately Nyck could not repeat his performance the following day. "I felt very confident, especially after clinching a pole in the morning. But I was let down by my engine in Race 3. Unfortunately these things happen in motor sports and you just have to accept them. I had to start from 17th place in Race 4 and it was hard to climb through the pack because many drivers closed the doors, though it was a fair-play race".

Nyck concluded what could be his last major official race in Europe in 6th place, punctuated by a best lap. So the last meeting on the circuit of Suzuka will be the decisive one. "Nyck had really the performance to win the four races and increase his lead in the Championship. The positive side of it is that now he has gained 7 more points over his closest pursuer, Alexander Albon", added Dino Chiesa, his team manager. The Dutchman supported by McLaren-Mercedes will certainly go to Japan with the same determination and great professionalism that are his hallmarks...
