Alex Walker Secures 2nd in InterSteps Championship

Fortec Motorsport's Alex Walker did more than enough to ensure 2nd place inthe InterSteps Championship as the season came to a close at Croft, NorthYorkshire at the weekend. The 16-year-old from Oldham came into the weekendwith an outside chance of taking the title but took on the difficult task ofoverhauling a 30-point deficit to the championship leader. After an off-track excursion in qualifying, Walker found himself furtherdown the order than where he wanted to be for all three races but salvaged5th, 6th and 4th place finishes from the weekend. The results mean that Walker has scored points in all-bar-one of the twentyraces this season, and has finished on the podium in no less than thirteenof those races, including his three wins. The only race that he failed toscore in was in Round 6 at Rockingham back in July when he retired on thewarm-up lap from the front row with a gearbox problem, though he later wentto on to win the other two races that weekend in dominant style.Alex Walker:"It's been an up and down season but it has definitely proved to be aninvaluable experience for me and I have to be happy with second in thechampionship. In general I think it's been a good season and I've learnt agreat deal which will only help me in my career, and I hope to come backeven stronger and go one better next year."It is disappointing not to win the championship and maybe it would havebeen different if we hadn't lost those points at Rockingham or if otherthings had gone differently, but this is motorsport and you have to takewhat it throws at you sometimes. I've got the winter now to reflect on myfirst season in car racing season and work on certain areas that will makeme a more complete driver next year."A big thank you to my sponsors Alpine Properties, Roger Hannah PropertyManagement, Thompson Jones Chartered Accountants, Reich Insurance andHowarth Bros., and of course Fortec Motorsport who have all made thispossible. I've really enjoyed representing my sponsors on and off the trackthis season and hope to carry our partnerships through to next season andbeyond."Walker now turns his attention to Brands Hatch where he will compete in hissecond Certina Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship meeting this weekend.
