Tandy joins Motorbase in Porsche Carrera Cup

Nick Tandy, one of the most successful drivers in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the Carrera Cup Germany, will join the Motorbase Performance team for the final four races in the 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, starting at Brands Hatch this weekend (1/2 October).Tandy (26), from Pavenham near Bedford, was runner-up in the 2010 Supercup and currently lies fifth in this year’s Supercup and is leading the Carrera Cup Germany. He will take a 12-point lead to the final round of the German series at Hockenheim the weekend after contesting the final two Carrera Cup GB races at Silverstone on 15/16 October.Team boss David Bartrum explained the situation. “With Michael Caine moving to the BTCC, we had a Carrera Cup seat vacant. What better way to fill it than with such a quality driver? He’s absolutely current with the car,” said Bartrum. “We want to show the strength of Motorbase over the last four Carrera Cup GB races.”Tandy jumped at the chance to race in Britain. “I’m looking forward to racing back where I started my Porsche career,” said Tandy, who made his Porsche debut in the Carrera Cup GB VIP car at Silverstone in 2008. “It will be really good to race in my home country again. I’ve raced just about every weekend of the season, but only once in the UK so far.”With the Carrera Cup GB title race very finely balanced with four races to run, Tandy is aware that there is a lot at stake for the title contenders. “I don’t want to get involved in the title fight, but I want to get the best results that we can. In motor racing you can never guarantee your results!”Tandy had a successful test with Motorbase for the first time at Brands Hatch on Tuesday 27th September and will run in official testing on Friday ahead of the weekend’s pair of races on the Grand Prix circuit at the Kent venue.
