Breeze Takes Ginetta Points Lead With Fifth WinCarl Breeze moved back to the top of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup points table after taking his fifth win of the season at a sun-bathed Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, Saturday, 1st October, for Wednesbury-based Total Control Racing.Qualifying on pole position for round 23 of the campaign, Breeze got away well from the line to hold the lead going into Paddock Hill Bend and began to edge away from championship rivals Tom Sharp, Adam Morgan and Nathan Freke.Although a Safety Car period on lap three eradicated the cushion he had started to build, the TCR man made a good re-start and was never headed on his way to his 15th podium of 2011 and possibly his most important win of the campaign so far.
He now leads the championship by 13 points from Morgan when the double 'drop score' ruling is applied and the victory also means Breeze will start the first of Sunday's races, round 24, from pole position again - the grid determined by today's finishing order.Joining the title challenger at TCR this weekend is former British Touring Car Championship driver Patrick Watts at the wheel of the guest car previously raced this year by Marino Franchitti and Tim Harvey. Qualifying an excellent fifth on the grid, just 0.7 seconds shy of Breeze, the former works Peugeot BTCC racer enjoyed a strong run to finish seventh overall.Holding fifth place during the early laps, Watts was pressured very heavily by Phil Broad and Colin White following the Safety Car period but he defended well. On lap eight though, Watts had to give best to both drivers - first Broad managed to edge ahead at Paddock Hill Bend and then White made his attack two corners later.Hamilton stars with career-best result in Renault Clios...First year car racer Nicolas Hamilton recorded by far his best result of the 2011 AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK season at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, also today, during the penultimate race of the campaign with a tremendous drive to ninth place - TCR's highest placed finisher.Starring in qualifying with another career-best showing, posting the 13th fastest time within just 0.9 seconds of pole position on the hugely challenging 2.30-mile track, the younger brother of 2008 FIA Formula One World Champion Lewis raced fantastically.Climbing from 13th to eighth on the opening lap, Hamilton remained the team's best-placed driver throughout after title challenging team-mate James Dixon was bundled down the order on the first tour after being tagged by Ash Miller at Graham Hill Bend.Seriously damaging Dixon's, and TCR's, Clio Cup title aspirations with only one race now remaining, Dixon was able to fight back though to the top 10 and crossed the line on lap 14 just 0.2 seconds shy of Hamilton. The latter did lose a spot to the vastly more experienced Rob Boston on lap nine but ninth still marked a superb result, as did his best lap of 1m41.394 seconds - within 0.8 seconds of the pace.Mark Proctor earned another Masters Cup class victory for TCR with 14th position overall, just managing to fend-off a two-pronged attacked from Andy Gorton and Simon Belcher. Clio Cup newcomer Belcher's challenge went awry on the last lap but Gorton was an ever-present thorn in Proctor's side.Defending brilliantly to soak up the huge pressure, Proctor held on to 14th place well towards the end and, in doing so, clinched the Masters Cup yet again. At the line, he saw off Gorton by just 0.157 seconds."Nic's drive was storming, unbelievable", said TCR team principal Lee Brookes, "His result was as good as a win today for us but a win is what we needed with James. We don't know where the pace went today - James still has a chance at the championship tomorrow, just not a very strong one. Mark defended really well today, he had a good race and that's what we like to see."In Ginetta, Carl did exactly what he should do and what he needed to win. It's fantastic to win again and the championship there is really on now. Patrick had a strong first day in the Ginetta G55, hopefully there will be even more to come from him tomorrow."The championship deciding final round of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK season will take place at 13.25 , Sunday, 2nd October, while rounds 24 and 25 of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup are scheduled for 10.40 and 16.15 respectively.Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4 will broadcast live from Brands Hatch, transmission beginning at 11.00, with High Definition coverage available at ITV4 HD. In addition, there will be live streaming online at itv.com/touringcars
