More Progress for Walker at Brands Hatch Formula Renault

Fortec Motorsport's Alex Walker put in another solid performance in his second outing of the Certina Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship at a hot and sunny Brands Hatch, Kent at the weekend. The 16-year-old from Oldham posted a top 10 finish in Race 1 and, although he did not finish Race 2, he showed strong pace was mixing it with the championship regulars up until his retirement.

Walker, who is hoping to graduate to Formula Renault next season following an impressive debut car racing season in the InterSteps Championship, was looking good for P7 on the grid in qualifying until the session was red-flagged and he was forced to settle for 10th and 12th.

However, in both races Walker put in consistent times and held his own throughout, scoring 11 points in Race 1 and setting the fifth fastest lap of the race in Race 2, despite his lack of experience in the championship and the challenging nature of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

Alex Walker:"The GP configuration is a very difficult track and there are a lot of places where time can be won or lost, so this weekend should prove to be very useful when we come here next year.

"I'm disappointed not to have finished the second race - I just pushed a bit too hard and made a small mistake which cost me - but everyone at Fortec Motorsport did another great job this weekend and we've made further progress.

"Having the opportunity to compete at Rockingham and Brands GP has been very beneficial and it's given me a insight with to what to expect next season. The level of competition is very high in Formula Renault but I can use what I have learnt in these four races to my advantage as we move forward towards our winter testing program.

"It's been a steep learning curve but there are plenty of things to be working on over the winter and I'm already looking forward to being back for the first race of next season."
