LoTRDC Race Report Spa-Francorchamps

 1-2 October 2011

Lotus Cup UK and Europe joined forces with the Elise Trophy at Spa-Francorchamps with a maximum entry of 65 cars making the journey to Belgium. After dominating the Snetterton round of Lotus Cup UK, Lotus Motorsport’s Gavan Kershaw repeated the act in the Ardennes, this time without the help of Martin Donnelly. The experienced racer was fastest in qualifying by more than 2 seconds and won with margins of 6 and 24 seconds respectively.

Second in both races was Mark Fullalove, adding to previous successes in Lotus Cup UK with the 2-Eleven wins. Completing a podium of class winners, John Rasse was the Exige Cup victor, completing a successful season in Lotus Cup Europe, where he took his first overall win last time out at Zolder. The popular Belgian was judged the year’s most outstanding driver, a feat achieved by his brother Gregory last year.

The Open class wins were claimed by the Campbell Cassidy and Matt Cherrington Europa, which has shown a great deal of promise of late, and Xavier Georges in a series one Exige. Meanwhile Ben Hyland scored a double in the Production class.

Whilst the 2011 Lotus Cup Europe season is now over, Lotus Cup UK has just one more round to go, at Brands Hatch on 22 October. The inaugural champion will be crowned at this meeting.
