Cayman Interseries Ready For Excitement On and Off the Track

at Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, October 14 – 16

“Rennsport Edition” Cayman To Be Unveiled And Raced; Series Partners With Children’s Tumor Foundation; Special Rennsport Competitor Awards Announced

The Cayman Interseries, the world’s only rolling tribute racing series celebrating Porsche’s rich racing heritage, will have a full schedule of both on and off the track excitement at next weekend’s Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, October 14 – 16, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS).

The biggest event to date in the three-year history of the series, the Cayman Interseries will stage an actual championship points-paying 45-minute sprint race on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. during Rennsport weekend. The race will be preceded by practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday in addition to a full host of charitable and promotional activities throughout the weekend.

The Cayman Interseries is a modern-day showcase of Porsche competition excellence as well as a high-speed history lesson on some of the most famous Porsche racing cars of all time. The series features the exclusive use of 2009 through 2011 Porsche Cayman S models that are raced in near-stock configuration by a competitive group of emerging and sportsman drivers alike. The heritage connection comes in the form of each Cayman’s livery that has a direct and visible link to a legendary or unique Porsche race car from the past.

Only in the Cayman Interseries can you see modern interpretations of such famous Porsche race cars as the Sunoco/Penske Racing 917-30, the Gulf/Wyer, Salzburg, Martini, Richard Piper Racing and “Hippy” and “Pink Pig” Porsche 917s, the Shell/Dunlop, Joest and Advan/Brun Porsche 956s and 962s, the Dick Barbour Racing and Martini 935s, and so many more.

The Cayman Interseries is also adding to the celebration around the fourth edition of Rennsport Reunion with a special “Rennsport Edition” Cayman S that will be unveiled and raced at Laguna Seca. The one-off design pays tribute to Porsche’s famous race cars and drivers and the equally legendary circuits on which they raced and won. The entire top of the Rennsport Edition Cayman S features “ghost” images of legendary race tracks from around the world, the stripe on the hood has a list of Porsche factory drivers and other notables from over the years while the roof stripe has a list of all of the factory race cars ever produced.  The wing features the Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV logo. Throughout the weekend, the legendary Porsche drivers in attendance at Rennsport Reunion will be asked to autograph the commemorative Cayman S, adding even more history to this rolling showcase of Porsche’s competition legacy.

The commemorative Cayman S will be formally unveiled Friday morning before first practice, but the positive impact of the colorful car will be felt even after Rennsport Reunion IV is in the history books.  Cayman Interseries owners and founders Napleton Porsche of Westmont will sell the car to highest bidder in the weeks following Rennsport Reunion, with a significant portion of the proceeds being donated to the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

The Children’s Tumor Foundation first became associated with the Cayman Interseries this past summer when reigning series champion Lee Davis, and his coach and co-driver Ryan Eversley, announced a partnership with the worthwhile organization.  Davis now displays Children’s Tumor Foundation logos on his sharp black and red No. 33 Cayman S, which carries the colors of the Advan Porsche 956s and 962s and Luna-C Clothing, and joins Eversley in fundraising and support for the organization.

Founded in 1978, The Children’s Tumor Foundation is dedicated to improving the health and well being of the more than 200,000 Americans living with neurofibromatosis (NF). The charity’s research program has played a key role in the discovery of the genes that cause NF, understanding the biology of NF, creation of the NF Clinic Network and preclinical screening of drug compounds that appear promising in treating the disorder.

The Children’s Tumor Foundation support effort at Rennsport will be expanded to include the entire Cayman Interseries. In addition to the donation of a portion of the funds from the sale of the “Rennsport Edition” Cayman S, the series is also partnering with Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in his hosting several young NF patients and their families at Rennsport.  Each young attendee will see his or her name assigned to one of the competing Interseries entries so that they can join their families in cheering on their specific Cayman S and driver.  A special fundraising raffle of some racing-related collectibles, featuring some exclusive designs from Davis’ Luna-C Clothing, will also be held.  The young guests of honor will also be treated to a complimentary lunch at the Porsche Park-in-the-Paddock, courtesy of PCNA and MRLS, on Saturday of Rennsport weekend.

Cayman Interseries competitors will also be racing for the biggest awards lineup ever posted by the series.  In addition to top-three podium honors in both the professional and sportsman divisions in Sunday’s race, the series is also honored to present the first ever Porsche Cars North America “Porsche Spirit Award" that will be awarded to the competitor that best exemplifies, on and off the track, the outstanding attributes of Porsche competition excellence and sportsmanship throughout Rennsport Reunion weekend.  Napleton Porsche of Westmont is presenting the inaugural "Peoples Choice Award" that will go to the most colorful and eye-catching Cayman S as voted by the fans attending Rennsport.  Also up for grabs is the JRZ Suspension Engineering “Fine Tuning Award” that that will be presented to a Cayman Interseries competitor at the end of the weekend’s racing schedule. Sponsored and created by official Cayman Interseries partner JRZ Suspension Engineering, the award is presented to the driver at each event that demonstrates the most progress each weekend by improving car setup, on-track performance and lap times.  The Hoosier Performance Awards will also be on the line and feature tire award bonuses in recognition for other top performances during Rennsport weekend.
