Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship

Round 6: Nescliff Camp, Shropshire,15-16 October

Dan Lofthouse overcame major mechanical problems to seal the Britpart MSA British Cross Country Championship with victory in the final round at Nescliff Camp.

Gordon Monaghan took an early lead on day one ahead of Lofthouse, Richard Kershaw, and Lofthouse’s main championship rival Ian Rochelle. However, the leaderboard was shaken up when the top crews encountered problems, leaving Lofthouse with a 20-second lead.

With Rochelle in 12th overnight Lofthouse looked set for a clear run to the title, but near the end of his penultimate run his car’s propshaft broke and holed the sump. Frantic efforts in service patched the damage and Lofthouse was able to complete his final run to take victory.
