2011 InterSteps Vice-Champion, Alex Walker, has decided to call a halt on his racing career due to financial constraints.The 16-year-old from Oldham has clearly demonstrated his outright pace in his maiden car racing season in the InterSteps Championship this year, having collected a total of 13 podiums, including 3 wins, but due to the economic climate he has been forced to end what would have otherwise been a promising single-seater career.Walker was hoping to find the budget to compete in Formula Renault next year after an impressive debut in the UK Championship, where he finished 6th at Rockingham last month, despite being fielded against older and more experienced drivers from all over Europe.Alex Walker:"I'm obviously very disappointed not to be able to continue racing, especially after such a successful season, and this isn't a decision that has been taken lightly."After careful consideration and having explored other avenues we have been unable to find a suitable budget that would allow me to continue my development and be competitive next season."I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in 2011, especially my manager Harry Soden, Richard Dutton and everyone at Fortec Motorsport, and my sponsors Alpine Properties, Roger Hannah Property Management, Thompson Jones Chartered Accountants, Reich Insurance and Howarth Bros."It's a great shame we've been left unable to continue our winning formula but it's been a pleasure and thoroughly enjoyable to have had the opportunity to have worked with the people I have this season."
