Tough debut for Sword at Sheffield

Stephen Sword endured a tough debut ride for the Relentless Suzuki by TAS MX team on Saturday evening, as the hugely experienced rider suffered crashes, dashing his chances of challenging for a win in either final.

Riding competitively for the first time since July, Sword was keen to get back into the thick of the race action, but despite plenty of practice time on the bike, the RM-Z250-rider struggled to find his race rhythm, trying a little too hard and crashing in his first heat race and again in the last chance moto too.

Stephen Sword: "A tough evening to say the least. The bike's good and feels fast, but with so much time away from racing I just didn't settle into things until it was too late really. Practice is great, but it can't truly prepare you for racing, and while this round has been tough for me, I can go to the next one, knowing what I need to do to get back in the mix."

Team manager, Adam Lyons: "In truth, I think I underestimated the effect that Stephen's absence from racing would have. There's absolutely no question that he'll be a force to be reckoned with on the RM-Z250, but he just needs to get used to being in the thick of race action again and on this occasion we weren't ready. With his experience, I have no doubt that he'll come back stronger and better prepared for the next outing, so we just have to put this round down to experience and look forward to the next one."
