Öhlins Releases Mazda RX7 and RX8 Road and Track Suspension Kits

Owners of Mazda’s capable RX7 and RX8 sports coupes will be delighted to learn that Öhlins, the highly respected Swedish suspension manufacturer, has released two new  Road and Track suspension kits to cover all variants from 1991 onwards. These two kits offer unrivalled levels of performance, allied to notable levels of comfort.

Thanks to the sparkling power delivery of their rotary engines, both the RX7 and RX8 already boast true sporting credentials, allied to superb handling, making them the perfect recipients for the unique features of the Öhlins kit, which finally solves the puzzle of how to achieve a truly comfortable ride from competition-quality units.

The RX7 kit features 110M/mm springs both front and rear and features precisely adjustable bleed and preload adjustment using a simple knurled adjuster on the top of each suspension unit.

The RX8 kit however differs slightly by running an 80N/mm spring on the front unit and a clever progressively wound conical spring on the rear to endow the car with exceptional handling and ride. Ingeniously, this rear damper unit also integrates with the factory top mount to ensure integrity of fit and quietness in use.

In both cases, front and rear coilovers are precision-machined from carbon steel and feature full dust and weather protection. Build quality is exceptional, with flawless anodised detailing and deep, lustrous powder coating. Öhlins’ pioneering dual-flow valve technology means that despite their light weight and slim-line profile, the Road and Track kit responds to road undulations in exactly the same manner as a traditional Macpherson strut set-up. The use of needle valves in the damping unit also means that even when the oil gets hot after a hard session on the circuit or ‘B’ road, the damping rate is kept absolutely consistent, even when the viscosity of the damping fluid changes. The front units arrive pre-assembled with superbly engineered ball-bearing top mounts, whilst the rears bolt directly to the OEM top mounts.

This unparalleled quality helps to explain Öhlins 2 year warranty and thanks to their racing heritage, each unit is fully serviceable and even upgradeable, should requirements or car specs change.

Height adjustment is achieved by simple adjustment of the precision-machined threaded body and damping and rebound are tweaked simultaneously in one simple twist of the easily accessible knurled knob; allowing the daily commute to be clicked off with limo-style smoothness, but, after a few seconds of adjustment, track days to be dispatched with racecar precision.

Thanks to Öhlins now holding stock in its Swedish facility, prices have been reduced by an attractive 15% across the board, meaning that the RX7 kit is now just £1912.80 and the RX8 kit is £1698.70. Both prices exclude VAT.
