Jane to Assassinate 200 V8 Ute Race Starts

Melbourne based, Kim "The Assassin" Jane will celebrate 200 Race starts when he hits the track for Race 1 of Round 7 of the 2011 Auto One V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All at Sandown Raceway, Saturday, 19th November.

After a long career in NASCAR, Jane moved into the V8 Ute Series in 2003 and has claimed a third (2007) and a second (2008) overall for the Series. The Bob Jane T-Marts backed Holden driver is currently 6th in the 2011 Enzed Drivers Championship after landing his first round win at Darwin this year, his first podium since Darwin 2010.

"We've had a couple of disappointing rounds and some good rounds. Darwin we won the round and obviously Perth was good and Bathurst but that's the game these days you can't afford to have any bad rounds," said Jane

Jane had his first ever race at Sandown in an EH Holden when he was just 17 and in2009 celebrated his 150th Race start, which proved a lucky omen as he went on to win Race 3 (his 150th) and take out the Round.

"We're not counting on any luck but will always take it when it presents itself. We just try and keep pressure on the guys in front of us and hope they make a mistake and beat them at the end," said Jane.

Jane has raced in Production Cars, V8 Supercars,  the Bathurst 12 Hour, American NASCAR Events and the Australian NASCAR Series, which he won from 1996 - 2000.

He also raced NASCAR in Japan, finishing 8th and the first Australian home, and has continued the Jane family heritage of motor racing involvement pioneered by his Uncle Bob and father Bill's involvement in the sport from the late 50's.

Bob Jane went on to win multiple Australian Touring Car Championships and Bathurst endurance races becoming a household name with the establishment of his Tyre Mart franchises nationally, largely built on the success of his on track activities.

Nephew Kim took a few years off from 2000 - 2003 and feeling the urge to race again thought the V8 Utes would be a great category to get involved in.

In all the years Jane has been involved in the Utes he has only ever missed two rounds with his Bob Jane T-Marts backed Holden and is looking forward to celebrating the milestone.

"I think it's always a good thing if you can have longevity in anything, especially motorsport. To achieve 200 races is a significant milestone, I've been in the game a long time now and it's a good feeling to rack up 200," said Jane.

Jane's previous round on the Gold Coast was plagued with bad luck after he came together with Peter Burnitt (who is coincidently celebrating his 100th milestone the same weekend), which damaged the car and also injured his knee the Melbournite.

"I think we will be working on the car up until Wednesday next week to get it all ready for the weekend. My knee is still fairly sore but it is healing well and I'm hoping it won't give me any drama over the weekend," said Jane.

Jane will take the track for his first practice session on Friday, 18th November at 9:10am followed by his second practice at 12:35pm.
