Darren Law to race 2012 Corvette Daytona Prototype

Darren Law will race a new Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype in the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. Law will return to Action Express Racing, driving the No. 5 Corvette DP. The Phoenix driver was in Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Nov. 15 introduction of the car, the first built to third-generation Daytona Prototype specifications.

"We're very excited to be joining Chevy Racing. It's great to have manufacturer support behind us," Law said. "This is the first car for the generation-three Daytona Prototype. I commend Chevy for stepping up to the plate and putting the effort out to produce the first car out of all the manufacturers.

"I'm very impressed with the car. It looks fast just sitting there! You can really distinguish that it's a manufacturer's prototype – it looks like a Corvette, but in prototype form. They've done a great job incorporating things like the Corvette nose and front end. And it's the nicest body fit I've seen on a Daytona Prototype."

Law and his Action Express teammates will start testing the new car at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla., in December. They will undertake an intense test program prior to the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona in January.

"We can't wait to get on the track with the new car. We've got a very, very aggressive testing program set up for the winter leading up to the 24 hours," Law confirmed.

"The team has grown. We didn't have the most competitive package this year, but we ran well. We ran top-five almost every race, we got on the podium and we were super-super-consistent. Based on our team's performance and how well we all work together, I think we'll be one of the forces to be reckoned with next year."

Darren Law will drive the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette-powered Coyote Daytona Prototype in the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. Additional race programs have not yet been announced. The versatile Phoenix driver is also the chief operating officer of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving (bondurant.com). He is supported by OMPRacing (ompamerica.com) and CDOC (cdoc.com).
