Steady improvement for Ceccon in Toro Rosso F1 testing

Kevin Ceccon ended his first F1 experience in the best possible way. The 18 year-old Italian talent today had the opportunity to drive the Toro Rosso STR6 in the afternoon session and really made the most of it, improving yesterday's laptimes by more than 1", closing the test with a 1'43"686 that left a very good impression on the team's technical staff, especially considering that Kevin was lapping with the harder compound available and on the only one set that he had available for the whole session. That was because, as yesterday also, Scuderia Toro Rosso's job wasn't focused on performance but on technical development instead, working both on solutions for the Brazil F1 finale and for 2012.Besides this, the working plan included also a lot of pit-stop practice, a standard routine for the team before the Brazil F1 season finale and also a good training for Ceccon, considering that pit-stops will be a vital part of each Feature Race in GP2, the Series that Ceccon hopes to contest in 2012. 05CecconTR.jpg

Kevin Ceccon: “This two days with Scuderia Toro Rosso were an amazing experience, and first of all I want to say thanks to the team for this chance. Explaining with words what was the feeling in my first laps on an F1 car is a difficult task, but after a few minutes the emotion faded, and I was focused exclusively on making the most of such a big opportunity. Besides driving the STR6, the most amazing thing was being involved in the teams' development work for the season finale and for 2012. I tried some new technical solutions, did comparative runs for the new spec tyres, and I even drove a race simulation following all the advices I had from the pit wall and completing a long and complex program. Being part of a job that was so important to the team was gratifying as much as driving the car, that im pressed me in many ways. It's much much quicker than anything a driver can experience before, but despite this I managed to bring it on the limit in the performance envelope that the team had set-up for our working plan. Now I will focus on my 2012 season, pushing as hard as I can to earn another chance to test this car: now that I've seen what it's capable of I would like to try it in a qualifying-like configuration! In the meantime, thanks again to Scuderia Toro Rosso for giving me this great opportunity".
