Gelzinis selected for FIA Institute Academy

Jonas Gelzinis, the 2011 Pro-Am1 champion in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, has been chosen as one of 18 young drivers for the 2012 FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy. Gelzinis is one of the 18 race and rally driver selected from all over the world to join this prestigious programme. The final 18 were chosen after an extensive week-long evaluation programme in Austria.“We think that his two seasons in the Carrera Cup GB helped Jonas to achieve this,” said his father and team boss Audrius. Jonas and the Juta Racing team have already confirmed plans to return to the Carrera Cup GB in 2012 and challenge for the overall title.The primary goals of the Academy are to prepare young drivers to compete at the pinnacle of the sport, to increase skills in the area of driver and road safety and to actively promote the principles of safety, fairness and responsibility both on and off the track. Over the next year, the 18 drivers will attend a series of workshops covering all aspects of driver performance and safety. The driving elements of the course include the development of technical skills, safety training, attitudes and awareness. The human performance aspect will feature physiology, psychology, nutrition, media skills and career management.
