Aaron Steele to test at the Roar before the 24

The Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge prize has got bigger – Anglo American Oil Company are pleased to announce that they have added the 3 day ‘Roar’ test to the prize and 2012 Challenge winner Aaron Steele is now set to get his first taste of Daytona this weekend when he tests with Mitchum Motorsport.

The ‘Roar before the 24’ test session takes place this weekend at Daytona over Friday, Saturday and Sunday and provides an excellent opportunity for drivers to get to know the circuit before the big race at the end of January.

Mitchum Motorsport currently competes in the GRAND-AM Road racing series. Team principal, Chris Mitchum, brings experience from both sides of the pit wall as a former professional driver, coach, crew chief, team manager and consultant for a number of top teams over the past 15 years. The team has drawn together a wide variety of talent from all forms of the motorsport industry to include over 45 years of professional experience from the days of Trans Am, Firestone Firehawk, IMSA, to the current American Le Mans, Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Rolex series.

It has also been confirmed that as well testing with Mitchum Aaron will race with them in the GRAND-AM 200 support race to the Rolex 24 on the 28th of January.  The team will be fielding a GM Motors supported Chevrolet Camaro – a big difference to Aaron’s usual F3 cup car! The 2010 Camaro GS.R is the Riley Technology built, road racing version of the road going Chevrolet Camaro SS and features a 6.2 litre V-8 engine.

"I really can't wait to fly out to Daytona tomorrow for a couple of test days in the car prior to the race at the end of the month. It's going to be a huge advantage for when I go back there, im expecting it’s going to be a massive spectacle when I first arrive at the track and I'm sure I’ll be in awe,” said Aaron. “One of the best parts of the test however is the predicted weather, 24 degrees and sunny... a far cry from the windy rainy conditions currently battering the UK, which should also give me plenty of good running in the car to fully acclimatize." Aaron Steele

“Aaron is a former McLaren Young Driver nominee and as such has been previously recognised for his speed and talent. I'm sure that although a Camaro is totally different to a formula 3 car Aaron will quickly get up to speed. We are very pleased to work with Mitchum Motorsport for this occasion and I am very confident that they will provide a race winning package for us." Anders Hildebrand, MD Anglo American Oil Company

A press conference will be held on the Thursday of the show (12th January) and a ‘champagne reception’ with past drivers of the Rolex 24 will be held on the Friday (13th January) – for more details or to register your attendance to either event please contact us.
