NYKILODEON.Featuring on the May 1973 front cover of 'Custom Car' magazine, Nykilodeon first began its life in 1972 once the god of hot rods, Nick Butler, finished building it from scratch. Nick Butler spent 2500 hours making Nykilodeon and cost £1700 back in 1972. It is visually based on a 1923 Model T Ford and engine wise, it has a Oldsmobile Rocket 88, 6 litre V8 that produces 350BHP and 400FT/LB of torque at just 3000 RPM ! The rear axle is from a 1964 Pontiac, while a home made tube axle with with Herridge ends sits at the front. The custom made dashboard was moulded from glass by Nick Butler himself, and the wiring diagram alone took Nick three months to complete. The electrical appliances are operated by American two-type safety switches and it has Treacle front lights. Underneath the bonnet (if it had one!), the Rocket V8 has a chromed valve cover and a Cal Custom air scoop. The unique headers were again, made by Nick with 70 hours construction and 300 hours design and also includes collectors that are detachable and also have removable end plates. Brighton Speed and Custom fenders are used at the front, while Nick's own design is used at the rear. Along with Nick's other two hot rods, 'Revenge' and 'Andromeda', they won more than sixty top awards during the '70s. These included awards for engineering, engine, interior, Hot Rod and paint - they were also best of show winners on multiple occasions.

Anglia Car Auctions were invited by the NSRA to attend their yearly event at Old Warden where we reunited Nick Butler with Nykilodeon (see photo's). An important part of British motoring history that brings out the little boy in all that drive it. Subject to an article by Russ Smith in the October 2011 issue of Custom Car Magazine. Recently recommissioned and used regularly throughout the 2011 summer months
