GREAT Britain World Cup star Ben Barker has declared himself fit to ride in Telford’s Ice Speedway this Sunday.Barker, who will ride for Birmingham in the Elite League this season along with Plymouth at Premier League level, has won his battle against time after spending Christmas in hospital with complications from a leg injury.Barker said: “I was never worried too much because I always had time on my side and about a month ago I started walking normally again which gave me hope. But I quickly went from being 50/50 for Telford to very confident and now, leading up to the event, I’m buzzing about it.“I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t feel totally comfortable and confident about it. I feel strong enough and there is no reason why I can’t go to Telford and do well.”

DUDLEY Heathens are to sponsor club captain Adam Roynon in the Ben Fund Bonanza at Birmingham on March 11.Roynon, who will be racing in all three leagues his season with the Heathens, Workington and Coventry, has been one of the unluckiest riders with injuries in the past and has benefitted from the Ben Fund.Heathens chairman Nigel Pearson said: “We’re delighted to support the Ben Fund in this small way. Sometimes we can all take for granted the risks these guys take to entertain us in one of the most dangerous sports there is.“The Ben Fund Bonanza has a cracking line-up and it’s great to see a club like Birmingham get the chance to host it. It will be a great experience for Adam to rub shoulders with triple world champion Nicki Pedersen and other Grand Prix stars.”
