BEN Barker has sent a ‘count me in’ message to organisers of the Ben Fund Bonanza event at Birmingham’s Perry Barr Stadium on Sunday, March 11 (5pm).The hugely popular Brummies star, who this week declared himself fit to start the season, is only too pleased to support the event which raises vital cash for injured riders both past and present, and will maintain his ever-present record in the meeting.Said Barker: “As long as they keep on running the meeting, I will always be in it – and this year I’m going all-out to try and win it!“I’ve been injured before and the Ben Fund has helped me. It’s a great charity and it’s good to have such a good competitive meeting early in the year. Birmingham is a brilliant race track and hopefully the fans will turn out and support it.”

SCUNTHORPE have announced dates for thirteen amateur meetings before the 2013 season – as they look to unearth more riders for the future. The club already operate at Premier and National League levels and promoter Rob Godfrey feels competing in the amateur events offer the best opportunity for those who impress to claim team places in the future.Godfrey said: “The meeting standard is as good as the National League so riders don’t have to win to impress. There were some good riders towards the bottom of the field last week and they’re learning so much. You can see riders with potential and I honestly don’t think riders are going to get National League places unless they are doing well in amateur meetings like this.“We’re not going to give any rider a place without seeing how they ride in these meetings so they just need to get down here, ride in the meetings and develop into riders who are worth team spots.”
