Barwa Addax Team, the reigning team champions of the GP2 series class, start their 2012 campaign with the pre-season test at the Spanish circuit of Jerez, which take place between the 28th February and the 1st of March.
Given the fact that the two drivers, who defended the team colours so successfully last season, have both moved up to F1, Charles Pic with the Marussia team and Giedo van der Garde with Caterham F1, Barwa Addax Team have signed up this season two promising young talents, Johnny Cecotto and Josef Kral of the Czech Republic and have given them both realistic options of fighting it out for the driver’s and team championships in this year’s campaign.
Cecotto and Král will have the responsibilty of driving with the numbers 1 and 2 on their cars thanks to the championship win of last year. Nevertheless, both drivers have an important pedigree at this level, having competed in the Main and Asia series with good results, including podium place finishes in important circuits such as Monaco, Spa and Abu Dhabi.
Alejandro Agag, Owner and Team Principal: ”We are delighted to be going to the tests in Jerez and the whole team is really looking forward to the new season starting. The objectives with drivers of the category and projection of Johnny and Josef, are none other than competing for both the driver’s and team championship. However, we are aware that it will not be easy especially with the new modifications in regulations. The work between driver and team will be more important than ever, particularly in the choice of aerodynamics set up and getting used to the varied tyre compounds which will be different this season. All of this guarantees more variation within the strategies that the teams will have to develop at racing weekends which also means a fresh and interesting challenge and this will go one step further in preparing them for the step up to Formula 1”
