P1 SuperStock Newcomers Take the Plunge After Test Drive

A burning desire to take up powerboat racing proved too hard to resist for newcomers James Norvill and John Collingbourne. After getting behind the wheel of the P1 Panther on Southampton Water, both have now registered to take part in the P1 SuperStock UK Championship this season. The pair, both from Newport in South Wales, will be on the starting grid in Plymouth at the opening round in May after testing the Panther alongside 2011 champion driver John Wilson."It was an awesome experience to take the wheel of the Panther and fulfilled my longing to be back in powerboat racing, having raced as a teenager", said James. "SuperStock is in an entirely different league to the junior powerboating I did fifteen years ago and the Panther felt excellent to drive so I can't wait to start testing."The crew has yet to decide who will drive and who will navigate as both plan to get behind the wheel for training and testing. "We're in this project together and will do some testing before we decide who will drive", said John. "James has been badgering me for a couple of years to go powerboat racing and it feels great to have had our first experience of the boat."P1 SuperStock UK Championship Manager Paolo Callea organised a series of demo days on the south coast recently and has seen four new crews sign up for the 2012 championship. "We have had strong interest in the Panther and our championship since Christmas and it's great to see the places on the grid filling up.
