Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge gets championship status

The 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge GB has received another boost with confirmation that it will enjoy championship status following approval by the sport’s governing body, the MSA.The GT3 Cup Challenge will take another important step forward this season when points will be scored across all 12 races to deliver an overall champion at the end of the season. The champion will then win the use of a brand new road-going Porsche Cayman S for a year.The points' scoring system will be match that used in the Carrera Cup GB, with 20 points for a race win, 18 for second and 16 for third, then dropping down to 1 point for 15th place. There will be additional points in each class for pole position and fastest lap.The overall champion will drive away in a new Cayman S, while the Class 2 champion, from among the earlier 996-model 911 GT3 Cup cars, will get the chance to sample the very latest high performance technology from Porsche. The Class 2 champion will win two places on the exclusive GT Driving Experience at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone
