Ecurie Ecosse is encouraging motorsport fans and rivals to donate to Teenage Cancer Trust and suggest hairstyles for its British GT Championship driver Oliver Bryant ahead of the season's opening round at Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend.
The highly experienced sportscar driver has a clause in his 2012 contract that states his long locks, which he claims have taken two years to grow, must be shorn this weekend."The team have been trying to persuade Oliver to get a proper haircut for some time," confirmed team boss Hugh McCaig. "So when we were drafting his race contract for 2012 it seemed like the perfect opportunity to slip in some wording to ensure he did just that. We have absolute discretion on the style which offers us a fantastic opportunity to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The more we raise the worse it will be for him!"A local hairdresser is already on standby to visit Oulton Park post-qualifying on Saturday to give the BMW Z4 GT3 driver a trim, but the team are committed to raising as much money as possible for the charity before then. An ambitious target of £2,000 in just seven days was set at the start of the week and, as of Thursday, the total stood at £1,100.The Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity established with the aim of helping every young person with cancer and their families, ensuring they receive the best possible care and most professional support throughout their fight with the illness. It's a cause that is very close to the heart of the team and specifically Blancpain Endurance Series driver Joe Twyman, who fought the illness twice during his late teens."We are running Teenage Cancer Trust logos on the BMW all year," said Twyman. "I hope that my involvement will not only give the charity great international exposure and create opportunities for us to raise money for TCT, but also provide inspiration to those suffering at present and provide some light at the end of the tunnel by showing that there is actually life after cancer."If you would like to donate and suggest a hairstyle for Olly, please visit www.justgiving.com/oliver-bryant-haircut.
