AFTER ENDING UP IN THIRD PLACE IN RACE 2 AT MONZA, THE SOLARIS MOTORSPORT DRIVER IS EAGER TO DO IT ALL AGAIN AT IMOLA…
Francesco Sini is ready to take his season to the next level. The 31-year-old, Abruzzo-based racer, who cruised to an excellent third-place finish in Race 2 at Monza, celebrated the debut of Solaris Motorsport in the INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS SERIES arena, and is now eager to repeat at Imola.
The Santerno track will be hosting the second round of the 2012 season in less than two weeks (the race is scheduled for April 21st and 22nd), and Sini will be among the main favorites for wins. The credit for his stunning start so far must also go to the Italian-Swiss squad, which developed the Chevrolet Lumina CR8 during the winter and is looking forward to field a second 6.2-litre, V8 powered racer soon.«The weekend at Monza has been incredible - said Sini - despite it started with some powersteering issues in qualifying. Then in Race 1 I was stopped by a contact while I was in 5th and recovering. Then, in Race 2, the team managed to get the car in full shape again and I got the first podium of the season…».His podium came in front of 31.000 spectators, in the middle of a last-gasp fight that brought him to end up just 1.6 seconds off the winning Mercedes of Vitantonio Liuzzi, and really close to the second-placed Jaguar of Max Pigoli, while the BMW of Thomas Biagi and the Audi RS5 of Gianni Morbidelli rounded out the top-5, covered by 5 different car brands.«I think we will be able to fight again for podium at Imola - added Sini - even though BMW and Audi should be better suited on that track. I will have a 10-kilogram handicap but I count on what is currently being the strongest point of our Chevrolet, an incredibly low wear on the new Hankook tires, which we can keep in great shape until the very end. At Monza, I clocked my fastest lap of the race with 2 to go, and that says a lot».No one is starting as a clear favorite for round 2 of the INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS SERIES. «It will be a great battle again.
