Perfect Weekend For Al Harthy With Two Donington Wins

‏Ahmad Al Harthy scorched to a pair of faultless Pro-Am 1 class victories during rounds three and four of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship at Donington Park on Sunday, 15th April, to increase his lead in the class standings to 15 points.Declaring the weekend the best of his career so far, the 30-year-old Omani made the most of his pole position starts in both encounters to take a pair of unchallenged wins and enjoy a massive confidence boost ahead of the next event, at Thruxton in Hampshire, just two weeks from now. After dominating the Pro-Am 1 class during Saturday’s all-important qualifying session, the Oman Air Racing Team driver continued his high standard in both races and also secured the fastest lap in round three with a time of 1m07.926 seconds (104.88mph) – just 0.3 seconds shy of the Pro-Am 1 lap record for Donington’s 1.98-mile National Circuit.“This has been the best racing weekend of my career, by far”, said Ahmad, “These victories are for Oman, for everyone who has helped make this happen from day one – this is what it’s all about. We’ve developed, improved our performance, and now the results are coming. The guys at the team did a massive job this weekend as always, huge thanks to them for such amazing work.”At the start of round three, Ahmad made a textbook launch and held his Pro-Am 1 lead comfortably before reeling off a series of strong early laps. Although grip became an issue towards the end of the 23-lap encounter, the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre-backed driver had it all in control.Round four was pretty much a repeat of the first race, after a good start Ahmad built a lead he never relinquished. Maintaining such strong pace wasn’t easy but, by the same token, the Muscat racer was never truly threatened either.“We knew the second race was going to be much harder and it was”, he explained, “We had another good start, strong opening laps and I just pushed on. We made some changes to the car between the races, we didn’t take a safe approach on the set-up – we went for it.“I’m absolutely delighted to have won again at Donington, it’s always important to be on the podium but two wins is amazing. It’s been a very strong start to the year for the Oman Air Racing Team, now we need to keep this momentum and keep pushing on.”Next on the calendar for the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship is a visit to Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, the quickest track on the calendar, for rounds five and six of the season a fortnight from now over the weekend 28th/29th April.2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship – Pro-Am1 Driver Standings (after Rd4):1st Ahmad Al Harthy, 39pts
