SuperStock finale moves to Southampton Boat Show

PSP Southampton Boat Show has replaced Liverpool as the final destination on the P1 SuperStock UK calendar in a move which will see Britain's leading powerboat series perform in front of tens of thousands of fans attending the opening weekend of the Show on 15th/16th September.

The much anticipated PSP Southampton Boat Show is an on-water, outdoor celebration of all things boating.  Providing real experiences both on and off the water, it is attended by some 120,000 boaters, the marine industry and a wide range of people who simply love watersports and boats.

Over 1000 boats are expected, more than 300 afloat in the Show's stunning marina ajoining Mayflower Park, with all boats accessible for show-goers to board. The Show is designed for visitors to get a taste of boating and there will be a variety of powerboats, high speed RIBS and sailing craft which visitors can book to have a go on for free.

"This is fantastic news for the SuperStock Championship as we are guaranteed a huge crowd watching the final races of the season", commented Championship Manager Paolo Callea. "Southampton always feels like our home venue as we do so much testing, training and demonstrations in the Solent so it is natural for us to race in the city."

The UK SuperStock finale was originally planned to return to Liverpool but the cancellation of the River Festival and tidal issues left promoter Powerboat P1 no choice but to look for an alternative. "Liverpool was a great host venue in 2011 and we'd have loved to race in the city again this year, but it has just become too difficult to organise this time around", added Paolo.

The P1 Southampton Grand Prix of the Sea will have a specially designed, spectator friendly course for the SuperStock races, which will take place very close to the Show marina. The event starts with exciting one-on-one Match Races to determine the grid positions for the first of the two points-scoring rounds. There will be SuperStock races on both Saturday and Sunday, with an expected start time of 13.00hrs.

The supporting AquaX series for personal water craft will also reach its climax at the Southampton event, with qualifying and three races on Southampton Water.

SuperStock UK and AquaX UK confirmed 2012 race calendar:

19/20 May, Plymouth

16/17 June, Hull

14/15 July, Eastbourne

25/26 August, Cowes

15/16 September, Southampton.
