Johnny Cecotto And Josef Kral Looking Forward To The Monaco Experience

Barwa Addax Team get under way once more at the legendary street circuit in  Monte Carlo, Mónaco, where they have had some of their greatest moments in GP2. In 2009 Romain Grosjean and Vitaly Petrov managed a historic one two and last year Charles Pic drove a great race to win. In between there has been the victory of Sergio Pérez  and the second place finish of Giedo van der Garde in 2010.  We could also add the second place finish of Josef Král last season. Drivers, engineers and mechanics join forces to end the run of bad luck that seems to have dogged the Spanish team since the start of the season.

It is easy to understand why both drivers, Johnny Cecotto y Josef Král, are impatient to get under way at a circuit where they have done well in the past and where they hope to get a really good result this time round. They are both sure that despite the complexities of the new norms concerning the different tyres available in this year’s competition, that the Spanish team will find solutions after the great work that the team has carried out and the experience they have at a track where the characteristics of the event are more like Formula 1 than any other.

In addition, there are further changes in the norms for this race which include the free use of two sets of hard tyres and two sets of softs. During the weekend we also have a radical change in timetable for this event in the GP2 Series, because the races will be run at different times and on different days. On Thursday the 24th the free practice session will get under way at 12.00 and the qualifications start at 16.44 on the same day. The first long race will take place at 10.30 on Friday morning the 25th and the second sprint race will start on Saturday the 26th at 16.10 hrs.

Johnny Cecotto, official Barwa Addax Team driver:“I can't wait for the race in Monaco, racing there for me is always very special. I spent a lot of my time as a child in those streets and to race in Monte Carlo is an amazing feeling. On top of that I love street circuits because you can't make mistakes and you have to be very precise”.

Josef Kràl, official Barwa Addax team driver: “I am really looking forward to Monaco. It is one of my favorite races in all the season. Last year a finished on podium so it would be really great if we can repeat it. After so unlucky race in Barcelona, where I won free session and after we had just technical problems I believe that the good luck is on our side now and we can turn it to some positive results. We did also very good preparation on the simulator which should help me to get up to speed quicker. Anyway it will be very difficult race as it always is and you never know what can happen when you drive in a town”.
