GTSport Racing/Napleton Porsche Team Ready To Continue Early-Season Success for Hot Wheels®, InvoicePrep, Voodoo Ride and StopTech In First Race Of The Summer
DETROIT (May 30, 2012) – Determined to continue a season-opening hot streak that produced a Long Beach win and a string of four top-five finishes in the year’s first five races, Jack Baldwin and Team Hot Wheels™ return to Detroit this weekend where the new No. 68 Hot Wheels®/GTSport Racing/Napleton Porsche Cayman S team will be looking for more success in a Pirelli World Challenge doubleheader, June 1 – 3, at Belle Isle.
Team Hot Wheels™ competes in the GTS division which shares the track with the faster GT cars at most Pirelli World Challenge races. This weekend’s doubleheader is the first for the GT/GTS teams since March’s season-opening event on the streets of St. Petersburg. Saturday’s race goes off at 2:50 p.m. EDT while Sunday’s finale is scheduled to start at 11:50 a.m. EDT. Both races will be streamed live online at world-challengeTV.com.Baldwin last competed in Detroit in the memorable Hot Wheels® Camaro, a winning program that saw the team capture the 1992 Trans-Am Championship in a record-setting season.
“It's good to be going back to Detroit and Belle Isle,” Baldwin said. “I love street races and Detroit is a great one. I have raced on all the Detroit circuits but Belle Isle, and the Motor City 100 back in the great days of Trans-Am, is my favorite.”
The No. 68 Team Hot Wheels™ Porsche is based on the popular Pirelli Cayman Interseries Caymans with modifications to meet Pirelli World Challenge GTS specifications. The World Challenge Cayman S, like all of the cars that race in the Interseries, was built and is maintained by Porsche Napleton Racing (PNR), the competition and high-performance division of leading Chicago-area dealership Napleton Porsche of Westmont.
Team Hot Wheels™ entrants and team organizers GTSport Racing is a partnership between Baldwin, Wayne Nykyforchyn from InvoicePrep, Eric Ostermeire of Voodoo Ride and Jeff Urbina from Jamestown Fish Restaurant.
All involved on the team are hopeful of another strong result in Detroit but that could truly be a heavy burden.
“I hope to do well there but honestly I am a little worried,” Baldwin said. “After our success and hard work to get the Cayman in a competitive form we are rewarded with having to carry 111 lbs. for our first and second place finishes. Although we have never been the fastest car, the World Challenge rules dictate that we must be slowed down and taken out of our competitive stride. I don't get it, but it is what it is, so we will go there with our 111 lbs. ‘passenger,’ get up on that wheel and give it everything I have to get the best finish we can.”
Baldwin, who uses boxing training to stay in the shape, is coming to Detroit at his prime fighting weight.
“Being on the road for six weeks it has been impossible to train the way I like and want to, but not to worry,” Baldwin said. “The Hot Wheels® Cayman and its driver will be ready when the red lights go out.”
The Laguna finish moved Baldwin to second from third in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS championship standings with 552 points, trailing only Peter Cunningham’s leading tally of 602 points.
