British F3/GT Championship head to Rockingham next weekend.

ROCKINGHAM SHOWDOWN FOR STARS OF TOMORROW

AFTER three outings for the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series & the Avon Tyres British GT Championship the series heads to Rockingham next weekend with everything to play for.

The stars of tomorrow go head-to-head at the Northamptonshire circuit on June 9/10 for another thrilling instalment of the closely fought championship. There have already been five different race winners in this very competitive British F3 season, with a championship lead which changes hands with every race.

Leading the field is 17-year-old Spaniard Carlos Sainz, son of the eponymous former World Rally Champion, who has notched up three victories in just eight outings. The Red Bull-backed Carlin driver heads to Rockingham with a slender three-point lead over team-mate Jazeman Jaafar.

Now in his third season of British F3, Malaysian Jaafar has been on the podium six times already in 2012 and will be hunting for more points at next weekend’s meeting in a bid to overtake Sainz on the leader board.

However, Fortec’s Alex Lynn will also be one to watch as the Essex-based driver has been very impressive in his first Formula 3 season, particularly in testing, and was quickest in the last official FOTA test day at Rockingham earlier this month.

The British GT Championship will also provide some thrilling action with glamorous supercars racing bumper-to-bumper at breathtaking speeds.

MTECH’s Matt Griffen/Duncan Cameron are slowly starting to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack in the GT3 Class. The Anglo-Irish pairing in their Ferrari 458 are 14-points ahead of Trackspeed’s David Ashburn/Richard Westbrook in their Porsche 997.

It’s much tighter at the top of the GT4 Class with just three-points separating the top two pairings. Team WFR’s Jody Fannin/Warren Hughes are just edging out Lotus Sport UK’s Sailesh Bolisetti and Phil Glew.

In addition to the British F3/GT Championships, the VW Racing Cup with Fuchs Lubricants, Formula Ford and Ginetta Challenge will be racing on Rockingham’s International Super Sportscar Long Circuit to deliver some spectacular action.

Tickets cost £15 per adult and admission for children aged 16 or under is FREE, so families have the chance to enjoy a whole day of quality entertainment at an affordable price. Tickets can be purchased at www.rockingham.co.uk, from the ticket hotline on 01536 500500 or from the ticket gate on the day.

Rockingham prides itself on providing access to all motorsport fans, and those who are registered disabled can apply for a FREE admission ticket for their carer. Written proof is required.

All tickets include access to a grandstand seat with a unique panoramic view of the entire circuit, and access to the race paddock, allowing a unique insight into the hard work behind the scenes from the teams.

The entertainment won’t be confined to the track and there will be plenty for all the family to enjoy, including water zorbing, extreme trampolines and bouncy castle plus trade stands and the chance to visit the paddock and collect autographs.
