Campos Racing´s driver led the race at the early stages yesterday and was third by the halfway point. A small problem during his pit-stop prevented him to fight for podium at the end. Today he will start from second row on the starting grid.
Facu Regalia finished 6th in race one during the Auto GP meeting held in Portimao this weekend. Campos Racing´s driver completed an almost perfect qualifying session, posting 2nd time on the starting grid, and Saturday´s race began very well for driver and team.
“I made a good start, because I overtook Adrian Quaife-Hobbs but unfortunately he overtook again on lap two. Yellow flags were waved and I slowed down, but Quaife-Hobbs avoided to do that, so behind my slipstream he passed me shortly after”, Regalia explained, adding that “we made a claim to race director, and by now we don´t know what´s is going on, if he will penalized or not”.
Regalia´s race pace was very good, setting fast and competitive lap times at the wheel of Lola B05/52 Zytek and battling with Sergey Sirotkin, who “overtook me when I missed the breaking point once”. His strategy was to pit by the halfway point, while running in third, but sadly a small problem during the pit-stop meant to lose time and another podium finish too. “Racing is like this. We had a good race pace, not for battling for victory with Quaife-Hobbs but definitively for second or third place yes. These three places were impossible to recover at the end”, Regalia explained after securing 6th place.
Race two is scheduled today at 14.05 and Regalia will third on the starting grid. “We will work on our car to improve its performance, it should look as close as possible to qualifying car. Starting 3rd on the starting grid our goal is to fight for podium, but we know it won´t be easy.
Auto GP is a high level championship and any kind of mistake could cost a good result”, Regalia said in the end.
