Crutchlow back for MotoGP warm-up as Lorenzo leads the way

The main news in a dry morning warm-up at the Hertz British Grand Prix in Silverstone was Cal Crutchlow returning to track after his injury sustained on Friday, as Jorge Lorenzo went fastest of the bunch.

After being declared fit to race this morning, Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Crutchlow gave his home fans something to cheer about as he completed his first laps since his crash on Friday, during which he sustained a sprained ankle. He finished the session tenth fastest, yet will start the race from the back of the grid as he missed qualifying yesterday.

Under glimpses of sunshine it was Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo who set the pace with a 2.03’662. He was followed by a surging Nicky Hayden on board his Ducati Team machine, as he made up for his crash in qualifying yesterday. Last year’s race winner, Repsol Honda Team’s Casey Stoner completed the top three, whilst today’s pole-sitter, San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Álvaro Bautista finished the session sixth.

Speed Master’s Mattia Pasini suffered a mechanical issue half way through the session, while Paul Bird Motorsport’s local rider James Ellison suffered a high-side with his ART machine, yet managed to walk away.
