The first race of the Hockenheim GP2 weekend was a difficult one for Scuderia Coloni: the Italian team closed the Feature Race in P19 and P20 with Fabio Onidi and Stefano Coletti respectively after some really eventful 38 laps.
The race started in wet conditions after a heavy shower during the F1 Quali, and both Scuderia Coloni drivers were quick off the line: Fabio Onidi managed to keep P4 while Stefano Coletti, who was starting from P14, immediately jumped to 9th place with a staggering start.
As the race went on the track began drying out and so, on lap 6, most of the drivers came into the pits: Coletti was among them, while Onidi stopped one lap later. Anyway the Italian enabled the pit-limiter a bit too late and as a consequence he received a penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
In the meantime Colettis race was looking good: after the pit stop was P9 and lapping on a good pace that quickly brought him in contention with Ericsson for 8th place. Anyway, on lap 13, Stefano was punted by Valsecchi, who was following him and tried an attack misjudging the distances. The heavy contact resulted in damage to the right rear suspension that forced Coletti to slow his pace, progressively dropping down the order until P20.Onidi, meanwhile, had dropped to P22 after serving the penalty and climbed up three places to finish in 19th place, also posting the fastest lap of the race with a 125254.Paolo Coloni: Were really disappointed because the early part of the race was really promising. Our drivers were doing a good job, the pace was good and a very good result was in our reach. The penalty for Fabio is a pity because he had a great pace, as he showed posting the fastest lap towards the end of the race, so he could have finished really high. Stefano was unlucky too, the hit he received on the right rear completely ruined the balance of his car so there was nothing he could have done to get a better finish. Well try to do our best tomorrow, even if it wont be easy starting from behind
