Chilton says Its not really fully sunk in yet, of lights to flag victory

Max Chilton took a brilliant lights to flag victory for the Marussia Carlin team in the GP2 Feature Race around the Hungaroring. Having lead from the start Chilton made a great getaway and managed his race well to cross the line firsttaking not only his first GP2 win but also the Carlin teams first GP2 victory in the process

Chilton had been on the pace from the beginning of the weekend picking up a stunning pole position on Friday afternoon to guarantee his place at the front of the GP2 field for this afternoons Feature Race. The Carlin man showed no sign of nerves as he took up his first ever GP2 pole position, as the field waited for the lights to go out. When they did, Chiltons start was lightning and he led going into the first corner from Davide Valsecchi - pullin out a gap of 1.1 seconds over the DAMS Racer and continuing to set the pace as he built up a gap.Holding out for a few laps, the front runners started to make their mandatory pit stops, with Chilton and Valsecchi reacting a lap later to pit on lap 13 - making it a battle of the pit stops as to who would exit first. The Carlin crew were on the pace making sure Chilton maintained the advantage over the Italian driverplacing him out on track ahead of the DAMS driver and in seventh overall behind runners who had yet to pit.As the race settled into a rhythm, Chilton controlled the pace well despite coming under pressure from Valsecchi. Chilton had built up nearly a two second gap until he became held up behind Julian Leal, who was running a long first stint and had yet to stop.  That allowed Valsechi to close within half a second, with Luiz Razia and James Calado close behind him.  However, Chilton maintained his composure and held his position despite the close attentions of Valsecchi and retook the lead on lap 28 as Simon Trummer, the last to pit, finally made his stop.

Chilton had everything completely under control as he took the chequered flag in a brilliant first placepicking up his not only his but the teams first GP2 win.Reflecting on his brilliant performance Chilton said, Im speechless. Everything just came together during the race for me. The start was great, the pit stop was fast and there wasnt a safety car. We came across a few cars in the middle part of the race who were on different strategies but it didnt worry me and the race really flowed well.Im extremely proud to be the first Carlin GP2 winner and so pleased to have got my first win here. Its not really fully sunk in yet!
