As the track became increasingly wet for the second session of the day, Barkers morning best set the standard. The superb Grand Prix circuit is a tremendous drivers challenge even in the dry and when the first session ran on a wet track, the challenge was even greater for the drivers in 450bhp 911 GT3 Cup cars. Barker (Parr Motorsport) emerged on top with a best lap of 1m38.896s, around 10 seconds off a leading dry lap time. As the rain increased, times were slower in the much wetter afternoon session in which Daniel Lloyd (Team Parker with JD Pierce) set the mark. The morning session was damp, which was driveable, said Barker. It wasnt worth going out in the afternoon. I did go out later in the session to have a look, but it wasnt worth risking it. There was a lot of standing water. In Pro-Am1, Victor Jimenez (Redline/Oman Air) set the best lap in the morning session to head his team mate Ahmad Al Harthy by less than four-hundredths of a second. In the afternoon, Al Harthy had a busy session, causing two red flags with an off into the gravel at Druids followed by contact with the tyre wall. Derek Pierce (Team Parker with JD Pierce) was well in touch in third place in Pro-Am1. Meanwhile, Richard Denny (Parr Motorsport) headed Pro-Am2 as category rival Will Goff (Goff Racing) missed the test day due to business commitments. In overall terms, it was Jonas Gelzinis (Juta Racing) who led the chase of Barker and it is these two drivers and Sam Tordoff (Team Parker Racing) who will play out the battle for the championship runner-up slot in Sundays races.Third best in the morning, but fastest of all in the afternoon session was Lloyd, who relished the difficult conditions. That was mega, said the Carrera Cup GB Scholarship driver. We were quick all through the session and its good to be back at the top of the times, he said. Making it a strong day for Team Parker Racing, Andy Meyrick and Sam Tordoff rounded out the final top five. Like Lloyd, Tordoff was very quick in the wet afternoon session.Rory Butcher (Celtic Speed) ended the day sixth after an off in the morning session interrupted his running, while 2012 champion Michael Meadows (Redline Racing) was down in seventh. Along with team mate James Sutton, Meadows only did a limited amount of running as team boss Simon Leonard elected to avoid the worst of the conditions.
