Ferrari 500 TRC Video revisited

A revisit to a video we took back in 1998 of Colin Crabbe's V12 TR spec engine'd Ferrari 500 TRC. Colin Crabbe - a legend in the old car world was a customer 14 years ago with a vintage parts business and he promised us a run in his Ferrari 500 TRC if we came up to see him on a dry sunny day. The challenge was that it in the middle of december 1998 here in the UK...No matter - we get a call one sunday morning at 11am - could be we be in peterborough in 2 hours? Does a bear **** in the woods?!Doris had her trusty Mercedes 280 TE pressed into action and after a spirited journey we covered the journey in a ridiculously short time frame - the old Merc belying the 180k mileage with a constant 135 mph showing for a while until the oil got hot...(joking of course - car never went over 70 mph m'lud...)Anyway Colin showed us some excellent hospitality - his daughter Sophie warmed this delectable car up - and we went for a little jaunt. Colin can pedal - has raced GT40's in period - GP Mercs etc - do a google - and it was just an awesome experience as he drifted this thorougbred. The car was going to be his pension and I noticed he had it for sale at a dealers recently - don't know if it's gone - shame I did not have the 7 figures to put a bid in myself! Colin had the dilemma that ideally he needed to find another 4 pot engine to replace the V12 in order to return the car back to original format - listen to that V12 and tell me what you would prefer...Car was originally sold by the factory and dispatched to the Cuban Racing Team, Scuderia Cuba. After a chequered history Colin brought the back from Cuba in the 1980's and in the absence of the original 4 pot - installed a 250 TR spec motor. Along with an Alfa Tipo 33 stradale - it would be in my dream garage...
