Twisted Team Parker enters British GT with Ginetta

Leading British sportscar racing squad Team Parker Racing is to expand into the Avon Tyres British GT Championship with immediate effect, starting with the 2013 season finale at Donington Park on 5th/6th October. The team, which will be entered under the name Twisted Team Parker, will field a Ginetta G50 in the GT4 class in readiness for a full campaign in 2014.Drivers will be former British GT champion Bradley Ellis and Caterham Tracksport racer Adrian Barwick.Team Parker Racing has scored numerous championship successes in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and in Caterham competition. It has gained title sponsorship for the British GT programme from Thirsk, North Yorkshire-based Twisted, builder of bespoke Land Rover Defenders using a combination of industry-leading engineering and luxury components to clients’ specifications. The team’s last British GT venture was in 2005, when Julian Westwood and Martin Rich scored Invitation Class wins in a Porsche.Stuart Parker, team principal of the Leicestershire-based squad, said: “It’s great to get ourselves a new project, especially as the commitment is there until the end of 2014.“We have only just acquired the Ginetta so we haven’t had a great deal of testing, but at least we have the whole of the 2013-14 winter to prepare for next year.“GT racing is expanding enormously and this is a great way to get our foot in the door. Adrian has come on very well as a driver in our Caterham team, and having a known quantity like Bradley in the car is very good news for us.”Ellis, 26, won the 2007 British GT title in a Dodge Viper and was also a race winner with the Ford GT in the FIA GT3 European Championship.“It will be great to be back in the championship,” he said. “British GT has grown enormously since I was last in it. I’ve been coaching Team Parker Racing’s Caterham drivers since the start of 2011, including Adrian. He is a very easy guy to coach – he listens, takes everything on board and applies what you tell him.”Barwick began racing in the Caterham Academy in 2011, moving into Caterham Roadsport last year, and has this season competed in Team Parker Racing’s Caterham Tracksport line-up, taking one podium finish in 2013 at Donington and one fastest lap at Brands Hatch.“Andy Parker [brother of Stuart and head of Team Parker Racing’s Caterham team] has looked after me really well, but I’m 46 years old now, so I thought I’d do something quite serious for a couple of years before I go back to Caterhams!” he said.“The G50 is a good car, very neutral, and perfect to do the job in GT4. I just need to get used to racing a wider car than I’m used to. Bradley is very much a proven quantity and we will be doing this with a proper pro-gentleman driver approach, which British GT encourages so well.”Twisted Team Parker will warm up for its British GT efforts by contesting the GT Cup round one week earlier at the same venue – Donington Park – on 28th September. With the GT Cup running to a shorter sprint format, Barwick will contest one race and Ellis the other.
