Tom Kimber Smith to make 2013 GRAND-AM debut at Lime Rock Finale

TKS Joins Marsal at Turner Motorsports for Lime Rock GRAND-AM finale

Three-time Le Mans class winner to make GRAND-AM GT debut

Top British driver Tom Kimber-Smith (GBR) has been drafted into the #93 Turner Motorsports prepared GT class BMW M3, for the final round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Series competition in Lime Rock this weekend (27-28/09) alongside regular driver, Michael Marsal.

Texan racer, Marsal, a full season driver with Turner Motorsport, asked the British driver if he would be interested to drive with him a few weeks ago and Tom readily accepted the offer.

“I have got to know Michael well this year as he drove with me in the Greaves LMP2 car earlier in the season in Europe and we have stayed in touch. He was looking for a co-driver for the last round as all the regular Turner drivers are on duty elsewhere that weekend and I jumped at the chance,” commented Tom.

This will be Tom’s first outing in GRAND-AM in 2013 and his debut in a GRAND-AM Rolex Series GT car.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Tom continued. “It will be the fourth type of car for me this year having driven LMGTE, LMP2 and LMPC categories already in the ALMS and WEC but as a driver getting into a new car and learning about it is always an enjoyable challenge. Michael is a great guy and I hope I can help him get a decent result in the last-ever GRAND-AM race.”

Marsal, fresh from two visits to the podium in as many races said, “Tom and I drove together at Silverstone and Spa earlier in the year and as a three-time Le Mans class winner he really is a class act! I am very pleased he accepted my offer to drive with me and I am really looking forward to working with Tom this weekend.”

Turner Motorsports’ Will Turner said, “We are very excited to have Tom in our GT car for the final race of the 2013 season at our home track. Our No. 93 GT class M3 has had some success recently and we feel confident that Michael and Tom have what it takes to continue that streak and finish the season on a positive note. We’re looking forward to a great weekend.”
