JD Classics adds more trophies to its collection at the Spa Six Hours

Hot on the heels of its recent Goodwood Revival historic race victories, JD Classics takes yet more prestigious wins at the 2013 Spa Six Hours eventDespite changeable and challenging weather conditions, the winning combination of JD Classics’ professional race car preparation and the driving talents of a quartet of top historic racers ensures success for the its Historic Racing Team

Following on directly from a victorious weekend’s racing at the recent Goodwood Revival, the following weekend (21-22 September) saw the JD Classics Historic Racing Team take further historic race wins at the demanding Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium for this year’s Spa Six Hours meeting.

The JD Classics Historic Racing Team are regular visitors to the Spa Six Hours, with the Team this year fielding four JD Classics-prepared competition cars; the Cooper-Jaguar T33, 1959 Costin-Lister, TWR Jaguar XJS, Broadspeed Cologne Ford Capri.

In a busy 62-car field, Saturday’s 61-minute Stirling Moss and Woodcote Trophy race saw JD Classics’ drivers Chris Ward starting in eighth position in the Cooper-Jaguar, with John Young in fifth in the Costin-Lister, and Ward set to share the Lister drive with Young during the race.

A perfectly-executed pit stop and driver change, allied to the commanding pace of the Costin-Lister, ultimately saw Chris Ward take the race lead, which he extended to an 18-second gap by the time the chequered flag fell, seeing JD Classics’ Lister not only take victory within the Stirling Moss Trophy race, but also in the combined field overall. Not to be outdone by its fellow JD car, the Cooper-Jaguar also drove a sterling race, taking first place within the Woodcote Trophy field, and finishing in fourth overall.

Sunday’s 70-strong grid in wet conditions for the hard-fought GT and Saloon Challenge race saw JD Classics’ iconic Broadspeed Capri of Chris Ward and Gary Person finish in fifth position overall, plus first in its class. The TWR XJS also ran a solid race in the capable hands of Andrew Smith and John Young, finishing third in its class and 28th overall within the extensive 70 car field.

Commenting on the Spa Six Hours weekend, JD Classics Managing Director said: “The Spa Six Hours was another successful event for us at this notoriously challenging Belgian circuit, with some satisfying results in Spa’s typically challenging conditions.”
