Team Parker Racing enters Dubai 24 Hours

Top British sportscar racing squad Team Parker Racing is to contest the Dubai 24 Hours on January 10-11 with its Britcar MSA Endurance Championship-winning team.Ian Loggie and Chris Jones will head for the Middle East with the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup in which they won the Britcar MSA Endurance title, and will be joined in the driver line-up by Team Parker Racing engineer Julian Westwood and ex-Porsche Carrera Cup GB race winner Richard Plant.Ex-international racing ace Westwood brings a host of experience to the team, while Plant was engineered by Westwood in his 2011 and 2012 Carrera Cup GB campaigns and returns to the cockpit after a year out of action.Team Parker Racing has already contested 24-hour races at the Nurburgring Nordschleife and at Silverstone.Team principal Stuart Parker said: “We’re using the Carrera Cup car that the guys used to win the Britcar title in 2013, and as the Dubai race has a 997 class then hopefully we can go for the win in that.“It’s the first time Ian and Chris will have done a 24-hour race and the first time they’ve raced outside the UK, but they should do well and we are viewing this as part of our preparation regarding our plans for the future.“Jules drove with them in the Silverstone 6 Hours race this year and brings great knowledge to the line-up, and we’re really excited to have Richard back. He’s been working hard for the family company so this will be something for him to look forward to!”The drivers:Ian Loggie: “I can’t wait. I’ve been racing only since 2011, but I’ve put my heart and soul into it, including trying to win in Dubai. It will be about being sensible, managing the car and looking after the tyres, and making sure our fitness is strong. I do triathlons – anything based on endurance I love – so because I’m keeping fit, that means the rest of the guys have to!”Chris Jones: “It’s a jump into the blue and it’s all happened very fast. But I’m sure we’ve got a good chance in Dubai. We know the car very well and had an unbeaten season in Britcar, while Team Parker Racing do a very good, professional job on the pit-stops. I think we have a very good driving strength and, even if Ian is the least experienced, he’s close to Jules and I on pace now.”Julian Westwood: “I’ve managed two or three 24-hour races at the Nurburgring and also driven in the Silverstone race, so I know how to stay awake! I am really looking forward to this. Ian and Chris wanted to tick off a few motorsport boxes, Dubai being one of them, and this will be a great way to give the 997 Porsche a nice send-off. We’re going out there to win the class and hopefully we’ve got a good chance.”Richard Plant: “I’m chuffed to be out after a year not doing anything. It’s exciting and quite nerve-wracking, but once I’ve knocked the rust off I should be right on it. I haven’t raced since October 2012 because I’ve had to knuckle down with work, but my heart is still in racing and what a way to get back into it – in a 24-hour race with my old engineer Jules! I’d like to do more racing, even if I can’t be as full-time dedicated as I was in the Carrera Cup.”
