Andreas Wirth Competes in the Champion Corvette for 2014

For 2014 Andreas Wirth climbs behind the wheel of the #1 Callaway Competition Corvette for his sixth season in the highly competitive ADAC GT Masters sports car series. While Wirth has driven the Z06R GT3 Corvette for Callaway Competition for the past two years, in 2014 he’ll share the cockpit with last years’ ADAC GT Masters champion Daniel Keilwitz. Due to professional commitments Wirth will only be able to help his team-mate defend the title for five events, with his primary focus on the final four rounds of competition. The Heidelberger will however step in for the second race weekend in Zandvoort in the Netherlands at the beginning of May. After the summer break, Wirth will run August through October for the four remaining events on the Slovakia Ring, Nürburgring, Sachsenring and at the finale at his home track of Hockenheim. Corvette Racing factory driver, Oliver Gavin, will take Wirth’s place beside Keilwitz for the three events taking place at Oschersleben and Laustizring in Germany and Red Bull Ring in Austria.

“Sadly I won’t be available to compete in all of the ADAC GT Masters race weekends this year due to professional obligations”, says Andreas Wirth. “I am very pleased though that along with Giovanni Ciccone and Ernst Wöhr at Callaway we’ve found a solution that allows me to run in five of the eight weekends. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to help Daniel and Callaway defend the ADAC GT Masters title this year, and I’m glad that the tracks I’m scheduled to race are very ‘me’. Of course, with my limited time in the car this year, you know for sure I'll be pushing hard every race to make the most of it – and with any luck we’ll see Callaway at the top again this year! I want to sincerely thank PILOT who supports me again this year – I’m very pleased to be starting together with them for 2014 in the #1 PILOT car.

"Due to Andreas’ professional obligations during the first half of the season we’ve had to find a solution", says Giovanni Ciccone, team principal of Callaway Competition. "We wanted to continue our collaboration with him this year, and are happy to have made that happen. Andreas has been very strong the past few years on the tracks that he’ll be starting on for us in 2014. He’s won four races at the Nürburgring, on the Slovakia Ring he was on course for a podium, and of course, Andreas is right at home in Hockenheim, Germany. Andreas and Daniel will be a powerful duo in the title decisive phase of the 2014 ADAC GT Masters season."

With Wirth’s reduced racing schedule, media releases will not be distributed this year. Instead, we encourage you to support him on Facebook (facebook.com/AW.AndreasWirth) and Twitter (twitter.com/AWirthRacing) where we’ll keep you up-to-date with news and race results along with information about his team’s progress throughout the entire season.

Watch for Andreas starting in pre-season testing at Oschersleben next week, and then again May 9 to 11 at Zandvoort, Netherlands.
