Fastest time for Verstappen in final F3 test

The up-and-coming driver Max Verstappen (NL) has capped his strong performance ahead of the first FIA Formula 3 European Championship race with the fastest time on the final day of testing.

Max, who is the son of the former Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen (NL) and who drives for Van Amersfoort Racing, finished ahead of Tom Blomqvist (GB) with a time of 1m 23.690s. The son of the former rally world champion Stig Blomqvist finished in front of four other drivers whose vehicles are likewise powered by the new Volkswagen engine.

Volkswagen is therefore in a good starting position for the new season of the well-known Formula 1 training series, which gets started in Silverstone this coming weekend. Rookie driver Verstappen, who is a mere 16 years old, nevertheless remains reserved, in spite of his good lap times:

“Just because I've done well during testing, it doesn’t mean I’ll definitely be winning races in Silverstone. I still have a lot to learn, but I think I’m making good progress.”
