Clio Cup Series Set For Major Showcase At Castle Combe This Weekend

Renaultsport UK will be out in force at Castle Combe in Wiltshire this weekend, 7th/8th June, with drivers from the all-action Michelin Clio Cup Race Series taking part in the 2014 staging of the annual French Car Show.

With support from Renault UK, aspiring Clio Cup racer Ben Davis (Ledbury) and current ‘Race Series’ competitor Pete Bennett (Blundeston) will be offering free high-speed passenger rides on Saturday at the wheel of a third generation 2.0-litre racing Clio, run by Finesse Motorsport Ltd.

Davis, who will be participating in the event with additional backing from insuremytrackday.com, will pilot the ex-Jake Giddings ‘Race Series’ Clio with category podium finisher Bennett also on hand. The show also features a Renaultsport UK paddock display with superb cars from its collection, including the Renault 5 GT Turbo, Clio Williams 001, Clio Renaultsport V6 255 and Renaultsport Spider.

In addition, Michelin Clio Cup Race Series front-runner Luke Herbert (Chichester) and leading ‘Road Series’ contender Jake Honour (Devizes) will be participating in the event by offering passenger laps in a Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo EDC and a Mégane Renaultsport 265.

“This is a great opportunity to publicise the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Road Series to car enthusiasts and the public – and it’s great Renault is kindly supporting this”, said 21-year-old Davis, who is aiming to move into the championship later in the year after four seasons in long-circuit MSA British Superkarts, during which time he also completed a degree in law.

“Any publicity at the show is really good for me to raise my profile as we try and find the budget. I have already completed a few tests with Finesse, they have gone well and the transition from 140mph Superkarts to the Clio Cup race car has been surprisingly smooth – no doubt helped greatly through the support from the team and Jake [Giddings] who is an excellent driver coach.”

The French Car Show is a hugely popular date on the automotive calendar, and one which has long been supported by Renault, with thousands of visitors expected at Castle Combe across the weekend. In total, around 1,000 cars will be on display at the show across six themed paddocks.

“Renault UK is delighted to support the involvement of Ben and Pete in this weekend’s French Car Show”, said Renault UK Communications Director Jeremy Townsend, “It’s fantastic members of the public will have the rare opportunity to experience passenger rides in a racing Renault Clio, showing them the excitement provided by the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series.

“Not only that, Luke Herbert and Jake Honour will be providing more passenger rides in a road-going Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo EDC and Mégane Renaultsport 265. The French Car Show is always very popular and Renault UK is pleased to be able to support the event once again this year.”

While advanced ticket sales for the French Car Show have now closed, purchases can be made on the gate priced £20 for Saturday and £10 for Sunday. There is also the option to buy a weekend ticket, including camping, for £40. For more information, visit www.frenchcarshow.co.uk
